The Data & Marketing Association Awards (DMAs) have recognised the work of innovative brands, agencies and suppliers for the past 38 years. We’re delighted that four of Zone’s brightest talents have joined this year’s panel of judges, including two of our rising stars.

The DMAs celebrate the strategic, data-driven and creative brilliance needed to bring marketing dreams to reality. Judged across four days and 34 categories, the DMAs are notoriously tough to win and judging them is not for the faint-hearted.

The DMAs strive for diversity on their judging panel — working with partners Creative Equals and Stripes to achieve gender parity. This year, we’ve helped to achieve greater diversity as our very own Charlie Bulmer and Emily Cooper are among the youngest on the panel.

Charlie graduated with an advertising degree from the University of Lancashire in 2017, and was a winner at D&AD New Blood (Wooden Pencil) and Lancashire Arts Festival. He’ll be judging the Best Writing category. “The most exciting prospect about judging at the DMAs is my own opportunity to analyse and hopefully absorb some of the brilliant techniques other writers put on display,” he says. “I’ll be looking for work that inspires creativity and delivers a concise but impactful message — and also makes me jealous (ie I wish I’d done that!).”

Charlie Bulmer is a copywriter at Zone

Emily works alongside Charlie in the creative team at Zone, delivering work across the BMW Group, including for Rolls-Royce and MINI. She also studied advertising, graduating from the University of Gloucestershire in 2017, and was nominated for a Chip Shop award for Best Political Ad. She says: “I can’t wait to judge the automotive category and see the insightful thinking. I’m looking forward to seeing how creative individuals show some colour in an increasingly grey area.”

Emily Cooper is a designer at Zone

Alongside Emily and Charlie are industry stalwarts Fergus Tomlinson, Zone strategy director, who is overseeing the Best Use of Data and Insight category, and Julian Burrett, our creative director, who brings his experience to the Best Business to Consumer category.
