Visual designer, Ana, tells us how she’s been bringing her creative flair to work and learning something new everyday since joining Zone last year.
1. Who I am and what I do
I am Ana and I am a visual designer . I joined Zone as a presentation designer, and later I transferred to Cognizant to bring Zone’s values of user-centricity and customer experience to clients on Retail and Consumer Packaged Goods sectors. My days are never the same, from creating presentation decks or proposal documents, to designing wireframes and concept designs for a huge variety of clients.
2. Why I chose to join Zone
From the moment Lamar (who is responsible for Zone’s creative talent acquisitions) messaged me on LinkedIn to introduce me to Zone and the role of presentation designer, I knew it was the challenge I was looking for. And after my first interview I left the office knowing I wanted to be part of Zone. Their portfolio and culture, together with the people I met throughout the process, assured me this was the right place where I would be able to develop new skills and learn how to become a UX designer.
3. I have mainly been working on…
So many different projects! I’ve been working with global brands from a variety of sectors such as retail, food, health, pet care, tech and the list goes on. Recently I’ve been working on designing a mobile app for one of our biggest clients.
4. The most important thing I have learned is…
To not be afraid to fail or try something new, even if there is a pressure of a deadline, but also know when it’s time to take a step back and that it is okay to slow down. I’m also very lucky to have a very supportive manager and team, who believe in me and encourage me to get out of my comfort zone and give me the freedom to try new things.
5. The most surprising thing about Zone is…
Whoever said “Surround yourself with people who believe in you” couldn’t have been more right, and that person was probably a Zoner. Everyone is very friendly and will go the extra mile to provide you with all the support you need in order to grow and achieve your goals. From training to mentoring and social events, there’s a huge sense of community which reminds us that having fun is also important. Also, have I mentioned we have dogs in the office?
6. My one piece of advice for other new starters is…
If there’s something new you’d like to try, let your manager and as many people as you can know. Even if it’s in a casual conversation at lunch or by grabbing someone you admire for a coffee, speak up and aim towards your goals.
7. Describe Zone in three words
Enjoyable. Collaborative. Innovative.
